Childcare cost rising: What can parents do?
99aupairs had the opportunity to be interviewed for an article in The Sydney Morning Herald that talks about the staffing crisis already faced by the childcare sector even before the COVID-19 pandemic started and childcare costs that continue to increase as a result.
The article triggered a discussion in a Facebook community of parents and nannies regarding this challenging situation. We learned how parents are forced to pay for higher babysitting rates as this is what the market demands.
Caitlin Fitzsimmons, the author of the SMH article, wrote “Nanny agencies and the Find a Babysitter website suggest the going rate for a nanny in Sydney ranges from $25 to $40 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The asking price for casual babysitting in the evening is as high as $45 an hour.”
It is such a huge problem that the article from Sydney Morning Herald got picked up by The Age and Small Business Insider. This proves this crisis is relevant for parents from Sydney and Melbourne.
What can parents do?
99aupairs addresses this crisis by matching young people who are wanting to move out of their homes with host families who need additional support with their kids while they go about their work responsibilities both at home and at work.
We created Gap Year Mentorship Program for Youth (GYMPY) to help young people explore opportunities outside of their community whilst earning money for themselves or their future, discovering what they’re made of by going outside of their comfort zone, and the opportunity to explore Australia at their own pace.
If you have struggled to find a nanny or even great childcare, you are not alone. We feel your pain and whilst this crisis has been a huge burden, we aim to give parents a fresh perspective on childcare service through the Au Pair or the GYMPY programs.
Reach out to us to learn more about our nanny, Au Pair or GYMPY services by booking a FREE assessment call with us. We will be delighted to help you find the support you need and deserve.
